Working with leather has been an integral part of the dunhill business since the very beginning. Alfred Dunhill took over his father's saddlery business in 1893, which means that we have over 100 years of expertise and experience.
The current collections represent the embodiment of this craftsmanship, heritage and expertise. Made to the very highest quality, Alfred Dunhill leather pieces are unique, beautifully designed and superbly executed.
Leather is a natural product, and this means that it requires care and attention over time. Different leathers require different types of care, which we explain below, range by range.
Dunhill accepts no liability for damage, defects or scratches caused by fair wear or tear, accident or misuse and repairs by persons other than dunhill authorised repair specialists.
dunhill do not officially offer a guarantee on our leather goods, as they are made from natural products, however, we do stand by the quality of our manufacture. Therefore, should there be any defect of manufacture, such as failure of the hardware - the lock, shoulder strap attachments and so on - we will of course rectify the matter free of charge within the first 2 years of purchase.
Due to the diverse nature of leather repairs, we have no standard services and all repairs will require an estimate. However, we do follow certain standard practices when carrying out a repair.
We ensure all re stitching uses the original stitch holes, to avoid future damage to the product.
We will only use original hardware - the lock, shoulder strap attachments and other metal fittings.
We will only use creams and polishes recommended by the relevant tanneries.

Tradition
The tradition range is made from vegetable tanned English bridle leather. The advantage of this type of leather is that it looks beautiful, and that over time it will develop a patina, a "personality” that makes the place unique. However, there are certain characteristics of this type of leather that you need to be aware of.
The leather gets its feel and look through the use of tallow-oils and waxes rubbed in to the leather. Over time, this tallow may come up to the surface of the leather (particularly if the piece is not used for a while). This appears as a white film on the surface of the leather. Called "blooming” this is a sign of high quality vegetable tanned leather, and is to be expected. Gentle polishing with a soft cloth or brush will allow the tallow to be reabsorbed back into the leather. To maximize the life of your Tradition piece, we recommend that you polish it every few months, and add extra tallow to it if required. For this reason, each piece comes with a brush and tallow pot.
NO PRODUCTS CONTAINING SOLVENTS SHOULD EVER BE USED ON THE LEATHER
Another feature of the range is the use of untreated brass for the hardware-the lock, shoulder strap attachments and so on. Again, these have been made to develop a patina over time. If you prefer the hardware to remain shiny and new looking, you can buff the brass hardware lightly with a brass cleaner. However, great care should be taken not to get any cleaner on the leather. This will stain the leather irrevocably.
