Cordovan leather is a beautiful burgundy horse leather. There is a waxy feel to the leather which comes from the use of the oils and waxes during the tanning process. It is important to note that these oils may rise to the surface over time, especially if the item has not been in use recently. The appearance of this white film is known as ‘blooming’ and is actually a sign of a high quality piece of vegetable tan leather. Cordovan pieces are supplied with a soft cloth which can be used to gently polish the surface and allow the oils to be reabsorbed in to the leather. Genuine Cordovan is an aniline leather which, over time will develop a patina on the surface allowing your product to develop its own unique character.

In some instances a small degree of colour transfer may occur if the item is carried against lighter fabrics. Should this occur, Customers are advised to consult a dry-cleaner.

Cleaning should be restricted to a dry cloth; however, a neutral polish can be used sparingly, this should be left overnight so the leather can absorb the cream and avoid transferring the polish onto items of clothing.
