  • Sentryman Explorer Limited Edition Fountain Pen / Ball Point

    Limited Edition (150). Incredibly innovative and functional, this piece was inspired by the needs of South Pole explorers. An artificial flint in the barrel creates a spark when struck against the magnesium material around the cap button, allowing explorers to light a fire, while a luminous cap ring enables the pen to be easily found in the dark. Unusually, the fountain pen forepart is interchangeable with a ballpoint forepart (included) – much better for writing a journal while on an expedition! The anodised aluminium barrel is strong but lightweight, and contrasts well with the polished palladium plated attributes.

    Celebrated as the most famous steam locomotive in the world, the Flying Scotsman’s story began in 1923 when it was created in the vision of Sir Nigel Gresley at the Doncaster Works in England. Such was the impact of this striking red and green steam train, that it even had an eponymous route from London to Edinburgh. The presentation of the dunhill Flying Scotsman fountain pen celebrates the upcoming re-launch of this illustrious locomotive after a programme of restorative work. The locomotive was acquired by the National Railway Museum in York in 2004 and forms part of its National Collection.

    This fountain pen has looked to the architecture of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design, for inspiration. The fountain pen features a burgundy lacquer covered brass barrel and a palladium plated brass cap, which has been chemcially etched with a design that evokes the Art Noveau origins of the museum.

  • Sentryman Shagreen Limited Edition Fountain Pen

    Limited Edition (250). the inspiration for this incredible pen comes from shagreen Art Deco boxes and lighters found in the dunhill archive. Although influenced by pieces from the 1920s, the use of shagreen has been brought right up to date with a dark finish the beautifully complements the black PVD on the attributes.

    Shagreen is very difficult and time consuming to work with – especially when covering the cylindrical shape of the barrel and cap of a pen. The leather has to be cut precisely to ensure that the fit is perfect and there are no visible joins.

This exclusively designed pen has a unique shape that is not linked to either the Sidecar or Sentryman families, and has taken its inspiration from the iconic British Spitfire aeroplane from the Second World War. The aluminium material used to make this pen actually comes from the Rolls Royce Merlin engine casing of an original Spitfire. The clip design is based on the shape of the Spitfire’s propeller, and the Plexiglas material in the cap is similar to that used for the aeroplane’s cockpit – further details include panel and rivet detailing that emulates the fuselage of the ‘plane. This pen is made from genuine provenance material that is over 60 years old, and there will be visible markings from the recasting process. These are unavoidable, but add to the authenticity and beauty of the piece. Limited Edition - (150)

    Always conscious of practical considerations, dunhill presents the Sentryman Explorer Pen, complete with interchangeable fountain and ball point nibs. With a satisfying click of the sprung bayonet fitting, the fountain nib can be replaced by a ballpoint that has a pressurized refill that will still work incredibly at -20ºC. Limited edition and only for the most intrepid of traveller, its bright red anodized aluminium body provides a masculine, metallic effect and is easily spotted if misplaced in a snowstorm!

    Other unique and inspired attributes include a luminous cap ring and an ingenious artificial flint feature in the barrel of the pen which can be removed and struck against the carbonised steel pen cap to create a fire spark. The Sentryman Explorer pen is presented in a matching red anodized aluminium tube with a handy carabiner clip and is lined in protective Technogel™ safeguarding its precious contents should it be dropped into an icy crevice!

    Reflecting the brand's appreciation of and affiliation with honour, tradition and innovation, dunhill presents the Fighter Provenance Fountain Pen. This exceptional writing instrument has been crafted using the original aluminium engine casing taken from the Rolls Royce Merlin engine of the WW2 Spitfire MK1 X4276 KL-B.

    Designed exclusively by Alfred Dunhill, the design details of this pen also reflect and are evocative of this iconic aircraft – the bolt and rivet effects in the original aluminium; the tapered edges echoing the aerodynamics; a window feature on the side of the barrel displaying level of ink and even the pen clip design directly references the shape of the spitfire propeller. In fact, the cap of the Fighter Provenance Fountain Pen is created using plexiglass which is exactly the same material used for the bubble canopy of the late 1930’s and early 1940’s fighter planes. For an added touch of dunhill luxury, the fountain pen nib is 18 carat gold with rhodium plating and the pen is presented in a lacquered Alfred Dunhill display box.
