A regular, light polish with soft chamois cloth will keep your lighter lustrous and shining. It is normal that after a period of time, tarnishing will occur on plated metal surfaces. This effect is heightened through contact with chemical substances or conditions of high humidity. A dunhill "Tarnishing Action Kit" is a recommended purchase to counteract tarnishing. Contact your local Service Centre to purchase one of these.
In general use, you should try to take more care if you own a lighter with lacquer and / or highly polished surfaces. These luxurious surfaces are particularly sensitive to scratching, and these are impossible to remove. However, for many dunhill lighter owners, a small amount of scratching or tarnishing is in fact a good thing - giving their lighter a patina and a personalised, unique look.
