When restarting a self-winding watch that has remained off the wrist for over 40 hours, it is advisable to rotate its setting crown five to six times or so to reactivate the movement's drive system. You can of course re-start the watch by shaking it for a few seconds. However, re-starting the watch by using the crown will give better accuracy of time. Again the reason for this is that by using the crown, you input more energy into the mainspring.
For your interest, it takes about 3 to 4 hours of being worn by the average person to fully wind the mainspring on an automatic watch.
