Conducting is an art of paradox. It demands precision and imagination, command and humility, fidelity to tradition and an openness to reinvention. Those tensions sit at the heart of the partnership between dunhill and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with the House appointed as Official Luxury Clothier. The collaboration was celebrated by dressing Vasily Petrenko, Music Director of the orchestra, for the launch of his new season in October 2025.
Few embody that balance with greater poise than Petrenko, who has held his post since 2021. Born in Leningrad and shaped by the formidable discipline of the Capella Boys Music School, his journey has taken him from Russia to the great stages of Europe, America and beyond. His performances are celebrated for their clarity and drive, but what defines him most is an insatiable curiosity, the desire to make each work, however familiar, speak anew.
