With a proud history of creating the very finest in gentlemen’s tailoring an Alfred Dunhill suit is unmistakeably British in its cut and presentation. Every part of this unique creation is hand cut and hand finished in London by Alfred Dunhill’s Master Tailor. Working exclusively with only the best mills, an extensive choice of over 4000 of the very best tailoring fabrics include high twist weaves with fantastic natural crease resistance, super 260 cloths and incredibly luxurious blends such as vicuna and silk.
The in-house tailor represents the best of Savile Row tradition, translating it into a personal service for clients. The truly bespoke suit is built through a dialogue between client and master-tailor, with every detail and decision made to ensure a product of unparalleled quality and fit. The Alfred Dunhill Homes in London, Shanghai and Tokyo have an in-house dedicated specialist joined every season by our London Master Tailor to host trunk shows and meet with the customers there and in New York.
Alfred Dunhill prides itself on a sense of appropriateness for all occasions. Taking these traditional values of dress and decorum, the team has translated them into fresh designs for the contemporary man. Just as a wardrobe needs to be adaptable for all occasions, so too are the brand’s bespoke services – whether you’re looking for a casual weekend blazer, suit for a wedding or a sports jacket. What is of upmost importance during the bespoke process is that whichever style the client arrives at, that the design influence is rooted in Alfred Dunhill’s brand DNA.
Evening events are also a key social occasion to dress for, and the brand offers an unparalleled range of black tie and opera suits. Business suits are a more day-to-day affair, but no less important to get right, and both classic and contemporary cuts are available. Alfred Dunhill is proud to have dressed many leading men for films, premieres and Oscar appearances.
MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
An exemplary illustration of the brand’s commitment to outstanding service, the dunhill bespoke experience begins with an initial meeting, by appointment, with a master tailor in London, Tokyo, New York, Hong Kong or Shanghai. As well as the opportunity to take full measurements, this meeting also enables the tailor to gain an insight into the lifestyle of the client and the demands that may be placed upon the garment; considering, for example, climate, pocket functionality or to ascertain whether it will be for regular use or a special occasion.
The tailor can then skilfully direct the client towards an optimal choice of cloth ranging from incredibly lightweight super 260 for a Summer suit; an incredibly luxurious vicuna, or a classically British tweed in a variety of styles – whether single or double breasted, two or three piece or perhaps a separate blazer, trouser, shirt or overcoat. The tailor can also advise on lapel width, buttons, and the colour and texture of the lining. For shirting, a choice of collar and cuff style is also discussed along with fronts, sleeves and buttonholes.
The second fitting is arranged after 6 weeks when the client is presented with a ‘pocket baste’ version of the bespoke item - a unique half made garment which is unlined and whose structure and shape is held together by basting cotton allowing easy alteration after fitting. The garment is chalked and pinned to refine the fit and following this meeting the garment is broken down, re-marked and re-cut.
The final meeting comes a further 6 weeks later when the finished garment is presented to the client. At this stage there is an opportunity to allow for any fine-tuning and finishing touches if necessary to ensure that the dunhill bespoke garment the client takes home is perfect.
