Namiki Turtle Pen
The Namiki Turtle pen tells the ‘Tale of Urashima Taro’, a famous Japanese folk tale about a fisherman called Urashima Taro who saves a turtle from taunting children. To thank Urashima for saving his life, the turtle takes him to the bottom of the sea where he meets a princess. When Urashima returns to the surface many years have past and he suddenly turns into an old man.
Namiki pens continue to be one of the most coveted collectable pens in the world. Beautifully crafted and hand-finished using the Maki-e technique, each pen takes many months to complete.
Alfred Dunhill sold Namiki pens on a trial basis in 1927 after being persuaded of their worth by Setsuji Wada, brother of one of the Japanese co-founders of the company. In 1930 Clement Court, the manager of the Paris store and a keen admirer of Namiki pens, joined Setsuji Wada in an epic journey from Paris to Japan, where Clement signed an agreement that gave dunhill global distribution rights for the Namiki pen – an agreement that still stands.
Within its own black lacquer Alfred Dunhill box, your pen arrives in a protective suede pouch on a cushioned internal moulding.
