dunhill X Black Bag
Cinema has long been a canvas for storytelling through style, where costume is more than attire – it can be a language of power, intent, and intrigue. In BLACK BAG, the new espionage thriller from the prolific innovator Steven Soderbergh, this language is spoken with artful precision. Set in a world of deception and shifting allegiances, the film unravels the story of George Woodhouse (a certain Michael Fassbender), a celebrated intelligence operative who is forced to choose between his country and his wife, Kathryn (Cate Blanchett). Taut and atmospheric, the narrative is an exploration of loyalty and betrayal.
The British sartorial heritage of dunhill and the House’s legacy of associating with the silver screen continues with BLACK BAG, where clothing becomes an extension of character and personality. Costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, renowned for her ability to craft wardrobes that define narrative and persona, worked in close collaboration with our Creative Director, Simon Holloway, to create a dunhillian wardrobe for the film that speaks to the narrative’s restraint and control. The result is an aesthetic that is sophisticated, effortlessly authoritative, and intense.
For decades, dunhill has played a role in defining the elegance of the silver screen, dressing some of cinema’s most compelling figures. For our collections, we endeavour to dip into archival influences that reference the golden age of Hollywood glamour. The House’s presence in BLACK BAG reignites this tradition, reinforcing the idea that in film, as in life, true style is not simply seen – it is felt.
BLACK BAG opens nationwide on March 14th, a date when you are invited to experience the convergence of espionage, elegance, and storytelling.
